My bio, compared to others, is kids' stuff! I hiked many years ago with the Mountain Club of Maryland (MCM) and then, after a long hiatus, joined in 1996 and have been actively involved since. I lead day hikes, car camping trips/hikes and weekend beginners' backpacks for the Club. I served as Councillor on the MCM Council in 2001, as Vice President from 2002 - 2004, and am currently serving as President (2004 - 2006).

I've been editor of Hiker High Points, the Club newsletter for three years. Having "aspired" to the job for some time, I recently began participating in Trail maintenance trips.

In my other life, I work as an Information Technology Specialist - currently involved in a pretty strenuous national rollout of a new part of the system architecture. Retirement is within reach!

I enjoy backpacking and go on western trips with the Sierra Club. The last eas eight days in Escalante Canyon, Utah; this year will be in the Cascades in the summer and another yet-to-be-chosen in the fall. Other hiking trips I do with friends "on our own", camping or "motelling" and doing day hikes - recently in Death Valley, Capitol Reef, and Zion national parks.

I am Vice President of my Community Association in an old neighborhood in an old City. In that capacithy I deal with many environmental issues - limiting developers, improving sewge pumping to protect streams, falls, etc.

Two years ago I was on an assignment to the Senate - ostensibly to work with rural states with high unemployment hoping to use IT to create jobs. I wound up working for a northwestern Senator on environmental issues - focused primarily on protecting salmon. It was an awesome experience. The Senator is pro environment in a part of the country that often isn't. I learned a lot about protecting the environment while not destroying livelihood of farmers (alternate routes for getting grain to market, etc.). In a time when politics seem to be all development or none, it was a very constructive office in which to work.
