There are statewide organizations or even regional with state subcommittees
such as www.highlandscoalition.org which is very active in NJ, a bit less so
in NY and just starting up in CT and PA. I would expect local land trusts to
be somewhat open to "outsiders" especially if they are knowledgeable or
contribute.
